During the regular meeting of the Sparta Town Council, board members discussed the possibility of extending insurance benefits for town retirees.
The members of council heard a request of Rex Wyatt of the Sparta Police Department to extend insurance benefits to those employees who retire from the town of Sparta. Wyatt will be eligible to retire after January of 2000 with 20 years of service to the Town of Sparta. The council members also discussed the retirement age for town employees to include age 55.
Town Mayor John Miller asked Wyatt, "Are you the only one to stay long enough to retire?"
Wyatt responded that he was, "On behalf of all the town's employees, I would like to request that the town furnish their employees with insurance after retirement," Wyatt said. "Several town personnel have 15 to 20 years service."
