Moxley is mentally evaluated

William Clay Moxley Jr., who has been charged with first-degree murder, has undergone a mental evaluation, according to a spokesperson for the Sparta Police Department.

Celebrating Heritage

The Main Street in Sparta was filled with numerous vendors displaying handmade items and with those who came to demonstrate craft making reminiscent of an earlier time last Saturday as part of the Mountain Heritage Festival.

Sheriff catches suspect after chase, others arrested in county

Three vehicles were stolen in Sparta last week, all have been recovered and were reportedly taken by area teens. In addition, several suspects in the vandalism of Alleghany High School have been arrested.
