Affordable housing venture approved in Sparta location

The Northwestern Regional Housing Authority founder and Executive Director Ned Fowler recently announced that a new apartment "village" has been funded and will be built near Bristol Compressors in Sparta.

Schools accept $74,000 donation

During their regular monthly meeting, members of the Alleghany County School Board were informed of a $74,000 anonymous gift given to the school system that day to go toward the construction of a field house at Alleghany High School.

Aid is sought for eastern N.C. victims

While Hurricane Floyd ravaged the eastern portion of North Carolina, the storm was barely noticeable here in Alleghany County.
