Three are charged in high school vandalism case

Three area teenagers have been charged with acts of vandalism that occurred at Alleghany High School on Sept. 3, according to warrants filed by Det. Lt. Wayne Crouse of the Sparta Police Department.

Sewing plant to close here on Nov. 12

Bassett-Walker announced Tuesday plans for closing two sewing plants, one of which is the Sparta location. The Sparta plant employees about 190 workers.

A Staunton, Va. man was killed when his motorcycle struck a deer on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Millers Campground in Laurel Springs Saturday at 9:15 p.m., according to Ranger Terry Morris.
