Reeves to appear Sept. 18


Del Reeves will be returning again this year on Saturday, Sept. 18 for the sixth annual Del Reeves Homecoming Show.

The show will be held at the Sparta Elementary School Auditorium, with proceeds benefitting the Del Reeves Scholarship Fund.

Reeves is best known for his hits "Girl on the Billboard", "Be Glad", "The Belles of Southern Bell", "Dime at a Time", "Looking at the World Through a Windshield" and "Philadelphia Phillies". Overall, he recorded nine number one songs and 35 top 10 songs. He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 33 years.

"Girl on a Billboard" was Reeves' first hit. It took off on the charts in 1966.

Performers will include Bobby Bare, the Kitty Wells show, Big Country Bluegrass and J.D. Higgins.

Two shows will be held in the auditorium, the first at 2 p.m. and the second at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 at the door or $12 in advance.

Ticket locations in Alleghany include Dollar Mart, Sheets Jewelry and Country Junction. Other ticket locations are available around the area.
