Skeletal remains found 450 feet down embankment

The skeletal remains of an elderly Montgomery County, Va. man were found beside his wrecked 1994 Mazda pickup on the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Lump overlook on July 20.

School board agrees to loan

After a lengthy closed session Tuesday night, the Alleghany County Board of Education agreed unanimously to take a loan out for equipment for the school system.

Tourism economy continues to grow in Alleghany, according to a report given by the North Carolina High Country Host.

Alleghany has shown steady growth in tourism during 1998.


AHS to set dress code this year

Alleghany County Schools will have a countywide discipline policy in effect for the upcoming school year. A copy of the policy is to be included in each student's handbook.
