The fifth annual Alleghany County Fiddler's Convention is set for Friday and Saturday, July 16 and 17 at the Carlisle Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds in Sparta.

Antioch Baptist Church, located above McGrady about a mile over the Alleghany County line in Wilkes County, raised about $800 during the fourth annual "Singing on the Mountain" June 19.

A town resident asked members of the Sparta Town Council to help in maintaining the road his residence is located on at the regular meeting held Tuesday, July 6.
