Alleghany's Future Farmers of America Dairy Judging Team took first place honors at the state competition last week.

The team had placed second in the Northwest Dairy Judging competition in April.

Members of the dairy judging team are Josh Stamper, Lori Joines, Travis Dalton, David Boyer, Jack Edwards, Justin Dalton, Cindy Loggins and Aaron Ray Tompkins.

J.D. Brooks and Lee Menius served as coaches for the dairy judging team. "This is something that they will keep with them all their lives,"

Brooks said. "It is not only a sport, but they use their mind as well."

The contestants had to perform a written contest and then judge cows and heifers and give an explanation as to why they placed the cattle the way they did.
