Funding expires for JobReady position

Due to the expiration of a three-year grant, Belva Miller will be leaving her post with JobReady at the end of this month.

"It's been great," Miller said. "The students and teachers have been wonderful."

Miller has been a major organizer of several area events relating to employment awareness. She helped coordinate the annual Alleghany Job Fair, the real life store, job shadowing and the teacher internship program.

The real life store is a project for seventh grade students to learn more about finances and employment. During the store, each student is given money in coordination with the career they have chosen. They also decide how many children they have and what kind of vehicle. In turn, payments, mortgages, rent, utilities and living expenses are taken from the students based on their answers.
