The same day the county budget is to be approved, a candidate for the empty commissioner's seat may also be named. June 21 is the scheduled public hearing date by the Alleghany County Commissioners. Following the public hearing the board will approve the budget.
Also on June 21, officers with the Alleghany Republican Party will meet and possibly select a candidate for the empty seat on the board of commissioners. Republican Com-missioner Bob Greene passed away June 3, leaving a four-member board of commissioners.
According to Mack Murphy, chairman of the Alleghany Republican Party, a 10-day notification must be mailed before a meeting of this type can be held.
