Fender to leave chamber after 12 years of service

Sue Fender, a familiar voice from the Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce for more than a dozen years, has decided to move onto other challenges.

County proposes 50-cent tax rate; revenues up 15 percent

In a budget proposal presented to the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners last week, County Manager Don Adams recommended the county tax rate to be set at 50 cents per $100 assessed value.

School budget is reviewed by commissioners
