The first-ever Alleghany-Ashe Mountain Run raised $2,500 for local Special Olympians, according to Alleghany Probation Officer Nancy Roten, who helped organize the event.

Accidental shooting reported in Stratford

A 42-year-old off-duty police officer was wounded in an accidental shooting on Walnut Branch Church Road in the Stratford community last Saturday.
