An Alleghany establishment which was first conceived almost six years ago has recently gained some national attention. The Alleghany Jubilee, owned by Ernest and Agnes Joines, is among several attractions featured in an article entitled "Great Road Trips" as part of the April edition of Travel and Leisure magazine. According to the couple, writer Michael Cain of Travel and Leisure first contacted them about doing an article on the Jubilee last summer. |
Dancing the night away - Several people dance to the music of area musicians on a recent Tuesday night "jam session" at the Alleghany Jubilee in Sparta. |
"I guess it was in June or July of last year," recalled Mr. Joines of Cain's contacting them.
When asked if they were pleased with the outcome of the recently published article, Mrs. Joines replied, "We're pleased to even be in it."
She continued, saying, "It would have been good to get one paragraph, not to mention what we got."
A reproduction of the article, from one of the eight copies of the magazine the couple has obtained, hangs on one of several cork boards filled with pictures just inside the door of the dance hall.
Mrs. Joines noted that Travel and Leisure sent them two copies of the April edition, while Lowes Food in Sparta special ordered an additional six copies of the magazine.
