A spring cleanup on the New River is planned for this Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
This event is sponsored by the National Committee for the New River.
"We have sixty volunteers signed up so far, and three canoe outfitters donated the use of their canoes," said Lisa Bare, spokesperson for the NCNR.
Volunteers are still needed to help with the river cleanup project.
Volunteers are asked to canoe The New River, walk the banks and help with registration at the local outfitters.
"We still have some canoes left," Bare said. "Call before Friday afternoon and I'll give you a meeting location and time."
