County gets $7,500 to pay for fairgrounds stage repair

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners accepted a check for $7,500 from Sedgewick James of the Carolinas to pay for the cost of repairing the stage at the Carlisle Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds.

After high winds in February overturned the fairgrounds stage, there was some concern by members of the community that a replacement might not be covered by insurance.

After the winds blew the mobile stage onto its side, an attempt to upright it proved impossible - the wooden stage fell apart.

It was built upon a trailer frame so that it could be repositioned for various events at the fairgrounds. It was not lashed down, but rather was resting on its wheels and its retractable stabilizing feet.
