The New River Builders are back at work on the river - planting trees where the banks are threatened by erosion.

Zoning is approved within Roaring Gap

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners voted Monday night to approve a land use district in the Roaring Gap section of the county.

County gets $7,500 to pay for fairgrounds stage repair

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners accepted a check for $7,500 from Sedgewick James of the Carolinas to pay for the cost of repairing the stage at the Carlisle Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds.

Secondary road plan hearing to be May 11

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will be presenting plans for the secondary road construction program in Alleghany at a meeting on May 11 at 7 p.m.

Georgia man killed on U.S. 21

The driver of this motorcycle was killed last Saturday at 5:13 p.m. Hans Hungs, 49, was pronounced dead on the scene after a head-on collision.

Zoning for mortuary requested

A Mooresville man has put in a rezoning request to the town to accommodate a funeral home here in the county.
