Students must make the grade to keep license

Almost every teenager anxiously awaits getting their driver's license or being able to drive their first car around. A new state law is using this milestone in a student's life as an incentive to encourage students to complete high school.

A student's driving permit or license will be revoked if they are unable to maintain adequate grades or drop out of school.

The Dropout Prevention/Driver's License law came into effect in August of last year. Several state agencies are involved in implementing the law. The Department of Public Instruction, Division of Motor Vehicles, the Division of Non-Public Schools, and the community college system are partners in this effort.
