A number of firearms, ammunition and other sporting equipment were stolen in an apparent breaking and entering and larceny at Country Junction Sporting Goods on U.S. 21 south near Sparta April 14.
According to reports from the Alleghany County Sheriff's Department, an unknown suspect or suspects gained entry to the business through an exterior wall and took items valued at more than $3,500.
The firearms were described as one long gun and several short arms. Also taken were fishing rods, tackle, a rifle scope, ammunition and other sporting goods items. The total estimated value of the items taken was $3,704.20. In addition, about $500 in damage was done to the building during the crime.
The incident apparently occurred sometime between the business closing on April 13 and the time of the report, which was called in to deputies at 7:50 a.m. April 14.
No charges had been filed and no arrests had been made as of presstime Tuesday, but the investigation was continuing.
