Commissioners stalemate on school plan, 2-2 

On a surprise vote after a closed session that lasted about one and a half hours, the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners stalemated on a vote for the proposed school facilities plan

Town council members voted unanimously to close part of Willis Street and completely close Arnold Street at a public hearing held Tuesday night.

An Alleghany County Deputy making a routine traffic stop just after midnight Saturday night made an unexpected discovery - more than 100 grams of marijuana and almost 22 grams of methamphetamine.
