News sports editor lands press award

Sports Editor Conley Tribble was honored with a third-place photography award from the North Carolina Press Association at a ceremony today, Jan. 28, in Chapel Hill.

Tribble learned that she was to be honored with the award on Dec. 18, via a news release from the press association.  However, the award has not been announced until now because the association asked its member newspapers not to announce winners until the week of the awards ceremony.

Tribble's photo, entitled "In The Field", was rated the number three sports photo in the state in its division. The photo was a picture taken last spring at a girls' softball game. It depicted second baseman Tara Temple tagging out a base runner from Surry Central.

"Conley has done a great job for us all year and we're really proud of her and this award," Editor Coby LaRue said.  "This is an  honor for both Conley and The Alleghany News."

This award marks the sixth consecutive year that The Alleghany News has been honored by the North Carolina Press Association for excellence in either advertising, news or both.
