In a surprise move last Friday, the county's EMS workers signed off to be certified as paramedics, despite the fact that they did not get the pay increase that they were requesting.
While details of how the agreement between the workers and the county came to pass are not clear, the workers apparently agreed to begin offering the service as soon as their personnel records and the program itself are approved by state officials.
EMS Director Richard Caudill said Tuesday that the service will not begin by the original target date of Feb. 1 because the personnel records will not be back in time. However, Caudill said that a new target date of Feb. 15 has been set and that the service will most likely be in effect prior to that date. The supplies and medicines had not arrived as of Tuesday, Caudill said, but the supplies are expected to be in place by Feb. 3.
