by Fawn Roark

Alleghany County elementary schools were visited recently by a park ranger who talked to students about wildlife, conservation and history.

Education Park Ranger Randy Sutton visited a group of 46 students at Piney Creek School on Jan. 13. The students who attended the presentation at Piney Creek are in the seventh and eighth grades. "This area is so nice to work in and the students, teachers and administration are so easy to work with here", Sutton said. "I teach students about the parks and the lesson is combined with the school curriculum."

Sutton visits schools in Alleghany, Ashe, Surry and Wilkes. This program received funding this year whereas this has not always been true in the past.

"It is wonderful", said teacher Elaine Cox. "He hits the students' course of study"
