The Alleghany County Board of Education Office was buried with calls last week concerning school closings, according to Secretary Ellen Widener.

"I probably received about 35 calls yesterday that were just about whether there would be school today or not",Widener said in an interview Friday.

The office is asking the public to refrain from calling because there are many other methods to find out about schoolclosings.

"You would be really surprised with how many calls we have been getting", said Widener. "We have been covered up in calls and its all we could do to try to answer them".

Instead of calling the education office concerned individuals can receive the information from several radio and televisionstations that Widener notifies with the decision.

"Mr. Davis told us not to tell people when they call, because we want to discourage this", commented Widener."Most people handle it very well".
