Students head back after longer vacation

Alleghany County schools welcomed students and teachers back on Monday after severe weather had added a few extra days to the Christmas break.

The first semester Christmas break began on Dec. 21 and school was scheduled to resume on Jan. 5.

The ice and freezing rain that fell after New Years prevented students from returning to school until Monday, Jan. 11.

School system Transportation Coordinator Frank Busic explained that snow days are built into the schedule because they are expected each year.
